I ♥ BOHOL

List of Affordable Beachfront Resorts in Panglao with a Short Guide on Famous Panglao Beaches

Follow us on social media

You probably think that beachfront resorts in Bohol are expensive and you're probably right! Most luxury resorts in Bohol are located along the beach and I have listed them down in this separate entry: Luxury Resorts in Panglao Island with 2022 Prices and Short Reviews. But if you look hard enough, you should be able to find a few that won't cost you an arm and leg. Before looking through the list, note that there are 4 main beaches in Panglao - Alona Beach, Dumaluan Beach, Danao Beach and Doljo Beach. Each has its own pros and cons so before you choose the resort, it's best to choose which beach you prefer first. Do you want a beach with a night life, or would you rather lose the crowd? Do you want a beach near restaurants or maybe one that is nearer the airport? I've described these beaches as thoroughly as I can and listed down the affordable resorts in each.

Alona Beach

Alona Beach is the most popular, and if you have been to Bohol, you have probably set foot here because it was part of your Panglao tour, or because it was where your resort is located, or it was the meet-up point for your island hopping tour, or just because you wanted to go food tripping.

Pros: As the most famous beach in Bohol, it is easily the most crowded but if you want to be where the nightlife and fun happens, then this is the beach for you. Since it's the most well-known among beaches in Panglao, this is where the island hopping tours rendezvous and it's also one of the stop-overs of the buses traversing Panglao Island from the airport making it very accessible. You have several choices of eat-out places in Alona Beach. Apart from the resort restaurants, there are several other restaurants, bars and cafes by the beachfront. The most famous one would be the Buzzz Cafe owned by the Bohol Bee Farm. When you walk towards the national highway from Alona Beach (around 5-10 minutes walk depending on where your resort is located), you will also find Jollibee and McDonald's so you really have a lot of choices where to eat.

Cons: For some people who want peace and serenity and hate crowds, this is not the beach for you. During evenings, it can be noisy because of live performances happening at the bars around the area. You can try getting rooms farther away from the beachfront but you have to check this with your preferred resort.

Here are several affordable resorts by the Alona beachfront (photos and contact information are provided below):

Dumaluan Beach

Dumaluan Beach is the second most go-to beach in Panglao, and it's particularly famous among the locals of Bohol. Located around 10 minutes from the airport, Dumaluan has a longer stretch of beach compared to Alona Beach.

Pros: In my opinion, the beach and the water here is generally cleaner since there are not a lot of island hopping tour boats unlike Alona Beach. It also feels safer and more comfortable to swim in than the one in Alona since they are more areas with sand instead of coral reefs. It's also shallower so it's safe for kids to swim in. Dumaluan Beach also tends to be less crowded than Alona and quieter in the evening, too, and I always get the same feedback from people who have been to both beaches. Since this is more of a locals' beach, it can be crowded during weekends and holidays but still, it doesn't get as crowded as Alona. This is also where South Palms Beach Resort and Bohol Beach Club are located so if you are planning to go on a day tour in these resorts, it will be best if you are just a few resorts away from them.

Cons: The entire beach will not be accessible to you since the beachfront of South Palms Beach Resort and Bohol Beach Club are exclusive to their guests. There are security guards who will be asking you where you're staying to make sure you're not trespassing in another resort's property. Also, since it's more of a local's beach, there are parts where the beach is not as well-maintained as others with resorts.

Here are several affordable resorts by the Dumaluan beachfront (photos and contact information are provided below):
  1. Dumaluan Beach Resort
  2. Villa Umi Panglao
  3. PJ Prime Beach Resort

Doljo Beach

Doljo Beach is located at the farthest western tip of Panglao Island. This used to be a long stretch of virgin beach but has been recently developed when another 5-star resort and a mall were constructed. Of all the beaches in Panglao, I think this is the longest and widest. Since it's not as famous as Alona and Dumaluan, there are only a few resorts in this area despite its vastness but you will still find some good options here.

Pros: Since the construction of the Moadto Mall, Doljo Beach has also become a go-to beach especially among the locals who would like to explore new developments in Panglao. It's a mere 15-minute drive from the Panglao airport, a longer travel time compared to Alona and Dumaluan but still relatively near. It's almost always quiet except if there are bands playing at the Moadto Mall or in the Modala Resort, so you should still be able to find a decent amount of tranquility and peace in this part of the island if that's what you're after. Being near Moadto Mall also has its advantages as travelers would have a good number of restaurants to choose from. The sunset is also less obscured in Doljo Beach than in any other beaches in Panglao,
although not entirely visible.

Cons: This beach is not ideal for swimming due to shallow waters but it should be fine for travelers who just want to lounge by the beach and stay dry. There are still some areas of Doljo Beach which are unkept since no establishment have taken over yet to maintain the area.

Here are several affordable resorts by the Doljo beachfront (photos and contact information are provided below):

  2. Palm Island Dive Resort

Danao Beach

Danao Beach is located along the southwestern part of Panglao Island. It's also not too far away from the airport and will only take you about 12-15 minutes depending on which part of the beach you're staying.

Pros: I've noticed a lot of parked boats here which are used for island hopping tours and scuba diving. I've also heard that diving spots here are better than if you're towards the eastern portion of the island.

Cons: However, the beach here is not as swimmable as the others. The water is shallow and for a lack of a better term, not very clean, but it probably depends on the time of the year. There are also not many beach resorts here since most of this area is either deserted or a fishing village.

Here are several affordable resorts by the Danao beachfront (photos and contact information are provided below):

  2. Solea Coast Resort Panglao
