The Enchanted Balete Tree was the first stop of our tricycle tour since it was the nearest tourist spot from Islandia Beach Resort. This attraction is located in Brgy. Campalanas in the town of Lazi. Some Filipinos, especially the elderly, believe that balete trees are home to mystical creatures such as kapre and tikbalang. The legend or alamat of Turad and Pintas also mentions how the tree came to life. According to the legend, Turad became the trunk and Pintas became the branches, and together they would form the huge balete tree. The tree is believed to be 400 years old and considered as the oldest and largest in the island of Siquijor.  Below the tree is a natural spring flowing directly to a man-made pool. There are small fishes locals call piit present in the waters and have been used for the attraction's fish spa. Tourists don't have to pay a penny for the fish spa experience but donations are appreciated. |
How to Get to Enchanted Balete Tree and Fish Spa: Lazi is located at the south eastern side of Siquijor. There are several multicabs and jeepneys traversing the national highway coming from San Juan. This attraction is along the national road making it easy to get to using public transport. Just ask the driver to drop you off at the century-old balete tree. If you are on a generous budget, I suggest to hire a tricycle or habal-habal tour guide. Their rate is around P1,000 for the entire Siquijor island which will take almost the entire day. |
