How do I change my profile name on Facebook?


To change your name on Facebook, follow these easy steps below. The interface would be different if you're on your desktop/laptop versus if you're on the Facebook app on your mobile phone or tablet, but the instructions are basically the same.

  1. Log in to your Facebook account.
  2. Click on your small profile picture at the top right of your Facebook page to go to your "Account".
  3. In the dropdown that appears, click on "Settings and Privacy", then click on "Settings".
  4. Once you are on the "Settings" page, find the section that says Meta Account Center. Click "Personal Details".
  5. Under "Profiles", choose which account you would like to change name.
  6. Click on that profile and click "Name'.
  7. Proceed to write the revised name you would like to appear in your Facebook profile. See important note below.
  8. Once you are ready to proceed with the change, enter your new name in the "First" and "Last" name fields.
  9. If you have a middle name, you can add it in the "Middle Name" field.
  10. Enter your password and click "Review Change".
  11. Review your name change and click "Save Changes" to confirm.

IMPORTANT NOTE: There's a note that would say "Used for 2 profiles" if you have your Facebook account linked to your Instagram so any changes you make to your Facebook account will automatically do the same for your Instagram. If you don't like your Instagram account change, you will have to unlink both accounts.


Please note that Facebook has specific policies regarding name changes, so you may be required to provide additional information or documentation to verify your name change. Is there maximum number of times you can change your name on Facebook?

What should I do if I need to change my name within the 60-day limit?


Honestly, I haven't been in this situation if you desperately need to change your name on Facebook within the 60-day limit, the best thing you can do is submit a request to Facebook's support team explaining your situation and requesting an exception to the policy.

To do this, go back to your Settings page and click on Help in the menu bar found at the bottom of the page. Enter "How to change name" in the search bar and click on the first help article that will pop up that says "How to change your name on Facebook". At the bottom of your instructions, click on "Fill out this form" and follow the instructions given.

You can specify other reasons not stated above but it's going to be at the discretion of Facebook if they will allow this change or not. So make sure you have those documents handy in case needed. It's important to note that Facebook is not obligated to grant exceptions to its name change policy, so it's best to avoid changing your name frequently unless it's absolutely necessary.

What are the things to keep in mind when changing Facebook names?
